Masud Pathik, PhD

Filmmaker, poet and scholar from Bangladesh, working in poetic cinema and raw realism. His films and poems follow rivers that take the land, and the people who stay on it.

His new film, Soul of Nature: BOK (2026, 87 min), is now on the festival circuit.

Where to begin

Really, there is no such thing as personal achievement. Nor is there anything universal. It is all untrue: the idea of a myth.

Life’s one real achievement is the moment. To live counting moments, and to die quickly, is the achievement no one escapes.

And still, man is just a concept.

About

Masud Pathik, PhD, is a filmmaker, poet and scholar from Bangladesh. He also writes songs. A former lecturer, he took his master’s and MPhil at the University of Dhaka, in Bengali language and literature and in environmental science, and his PhD at Assam University on music in cinema, with a thesis on the films of Ritwik Ghatak in the context of Partition. His first book of poems appeared in 1996; almost thirty have followed.

He calls his way of filmmaking raw realism: poetic cinema shot on real land, with real water, among the people who live there. He writes and directs through his own company, Bratya Creation, which has produced all of his films.

He is chief executive of Bratya Creation, president of the World Ecology and Autism Film Forum Bangladesh, and president of World Cultural Reconnection.
