Music in the Films of Ritwik Ghatak: The Context of Partition

PhD in cinematic music, Assam University, India, 2022. His master’s and MPhil, in Bengali language and literature and in environmental science, are from the University of Dhaka. He is a former lecturer.

A study of music in the films of Ritwik Ghatak, read in the context of the 1947 Partition of Bengal. Alongside the research he made “Ajantrik” (2018), a film on Ghatak.

Raw realism: a manifesto

His own way of making films brings together nature, ecofeminism, ecology and a surreal poetic language: poetic cinema shot on real land, with real water, among the people who live there. He sets it out in New Cinema and the Raw Realism Movement, and calls the whole outlook metamodern.
